Quotables
"Holt is a real player. She does a lot of difficult things. She creates a tough matchup for us. We made up our mind that we were going to give up some points to Holt, but we hoped to eliminate their 3-point shooting. We didn't realize that we were going to give Holt so many points."
- LSU head coach Van Chancellor

"Amber Holt presents a big challenge. She's a competitor, she plays with composure, she makes good decisions, and she's tough to guard. The best way to guard her is to limit her touches. Amber is their go-to player. She is like our Candace Parker. She only had one turnover, and that says something about her game."
- Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt

"There was no surprise at the type of player she is. She made some incredible shots. With the shot clock running down and being double teamed, she throws up a bank shot and it goes in. There's not much you can do about that. She's just a great basketball player."
- Louisville head coach Jeff Walz

HOLT ADDED TO WADE WATCH LIST: Holt was added to the State Farm Wade Watch List on January 23, the national player of the year award sponsored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. She was added to the Watch List along with Idaho State's Natalie Doma and California's Ashley Walker, bringing the total number of players to 29. The renowned Wade Watch List for the State Farm Wade Trophy is comprised of student-athletes who are members of an NCAA Division I institution and are selected based on the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.

HOLT NAMED TO NAISMITH TROPHY LIST: Holt has been named among 31 candidates for the 2008 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced January 29. The Naismith women's list, which includes 31 candidates because of a tie, was voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The board based its criteria on player performances this season, and the list was narrowed down from the pre-season list of 50 candidates who were announced at the beginning of the season. The women's Naismith Trophy winner will be announced April 7 at the 2008 NCAA Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

HOLT VOTED TO WOODEN AWARD MIDSEASON TOP 20: Amber Holt was named to her third national player of the year award list after the senior appeared on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 on January 31. The Women's Wooden Award Committee made the announcement for the nation's most coveted college basketball award. Composed of the top 20 players who will compete for this season's player of the year award, the midseason list is based on individual player performance and team records during the first half of the season. Forty-seven players received votes for the midseason list, indicating the depth of this year's field. Six players have been selected to the Midseason Top 20 who were not on the Preseason Top 30 list. This impressive group includes returning players (Chante Black of Duke, Natalie Doma of Idaho State, Andrea Riley of Oklahoma State, Ashley Walker of California, and Holt, the nation's leading scorer) and one freshman, Maya Moore of Connecticut. Seven NCAA conferences are represented, including the Big East Conference topping the list with six players, followed by the ACC with four, the SEC with three, the Big 12, Sun Belt and Pac-10 each with two, and the Big Sky with one. In March, the Women's National Advisory Board will release the names of the players selected to the official voting ballot.

Notables

HOLT NO. 1 IN SCORING: Holt leads the nation in scoring for the 10th straight week heading into Wednesday's contest against Western Carolina. She is averaging 27.1 points per game. Sade Logan of Robert Morris ranks second with 25.2 points per contest. Holt has posted a dozen 30-point games in 2007-08, a Blue Raider single-season record. She has eight double-doubles this year and ranks 97th nationally in rebounds (8.1), 74th in steals per game (2.41), 53rd in field goal percentage (.516) and 93rd in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.52). Of the 13 games nationally this season with 40-point scorers, Holt is the only player with a pair of 40-point showings. The Duluth, Ga., native scored 41 points in an upset of No. 8 LSU in December and broke a 21-year-old school record for points in a game with 44 at Louisiana-Monroe in January. Holt leads the Sun Belt in scoring and ranks second in FG percentage and assist-to-turnover ratio, first in steals and offensive rebounds, third in rebounding, fourth in FT percentage, and eighth in assists. Eight of her 30-point efforts have come versus SBC competition. She has won an unprecedented five Sun Belt Player of the Week awards and is a member of all three National Player of the Year award watch lists - the Wade Trophy, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award. She also does it on the defensive end, drawing 58 charges in 2007-08, almost twice the number the rest of the team has combined.

HOLT NAMED TO FINAL WOODEN LIST: Holt is one of 17 student-athletes named to the final 2008 Women's John R. Wooden Award ballot, as announced March 10 at The Los Angeles Athletic Club by John R. Wooden Award Chairman Richard "Duke" Llewellyn. A panel of more than 300 voters, comprised of sports media members and college basketball experts from around the nation, have until 3 p.m. EST on Monday, March 31, to cast their votes for the five-member women's All-American Team and Player of the Year. All players on the ballots have proven to their universities that they are making progress toward graduation and are maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Holt is the nation's leading scorer for the 10th straight week and is the only player in the country currently leading her team in points, rebounds, assists and steals. The Duluth, Ga., native has been named to all three national player of the year award lists - the Wooden Award, the Wade Watch and the Naismith Award - and is the only player in the nation with a pair of 40-point games this season. The Big East Conference had four players chosen to the women's slate, followed by the ACC, SEC and Big 12 with three, the Sun Belt with two, and the Pac-10 and Big Sky with one apiece.

HOLT VOTED FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: Holt has been named a First Team All-American by CBSSports.com after leading the nation in scoring for more than half the season and helping the Blue Raiders to a 21-11 overall mark. She is the only First Team All-American in program history. She continues to rewrite the single-season record books at Middle Tennessee, setting the single-season scoring mark against Troy on March 1. She ranks first on the single-season charts in scoring average (27.1), field goals made (330), field goals attempts (639), free throws made (190), free throw attempts (242) and 30-point scoring games in a season (12). She also ranks eighth in rebounds (259) and second in double-figure scoring games (32). Holt heads into Wednesday's WNIT contest against Western Carolina with 868 points this season, moving her into the national Top 20 for points in a season. Holt ranks 17th on the national list, only four points behind Penn State's Kelly Mazzante (872 points, 2002) and five behind Delta State's Deborah Temple (873 points, 1984). She needs 40 points to reach the Top 10 on the list.

HOLT NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Holt was voted to the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team after leading the Blue Raiders to the tourney finals and breaking four individual records last season. Holt scored 33 points against both Troy in the quarterfinals and UALR in the semifinals. She netted 22 points in the finals versus Western Kentucky, scoring 88 total points in the three games, surpassing the mark set last season by teammate Chrissy Givens (85). She also broke tournament records for field goals (32), field goal attempts (63) and free throws made (24). It was the second straight year Holt earned All-Tournament accolades. Middle Tennessee has had six players named to the All-Tournament Team in eight years since joining the league.

HOLT WITH ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Holt posted her eighth double-double of the season and the 11th of her career versus UALR in the semifinals of the SBC Tournament, scoring 33 points with 10 rebounds. It was the 12th 30-point game of the year for the senior and her 19th outing this season with eight or more rebounds. Holt has posted a double-double in three of her last six games this season and is averaging 9.0 rebounds per contest over those six outings. The Duluth, Ga., native collected 33 points and 11 rebounds at Denver on February 21 and followed that with 34 points and tied her career-high with 15 boards two days later at Florida Atlantic. Holt also has double-doubles this season against Houston, Maryland, Austin Peay, Florida International and Troy.

HOLT ADDS TO SINGLE-SEASON RECORDS: Holt continues to rewrite the single-season record books at Middle Tennessee, moving into first place for free throw attempts in the victory over UALR in the semifinals of the SBC Tournament. Holt was 15-for-18 at the foul line, moving out of a tie for first with Robin Hendrix (1981) and all alone at the top with 242 attempts. Holt was already the single-season leader in points (868), scoring average (27.1), FG made (330), FG attempts (639), FT made (190) and 30-point scoring games in a season (12). She also ranks eighth in rebounds (259) and second in double-figure scoring games (32).

HOLT NEARS NATIONAL SINGLE-SEASON SCORING LIST: Holt scored 22 points in the loss to Western Kentucky in the finals of the Sun Belt Tournament, giving the senior 868 points this season and moving her into the national Top 20 for points in a season. Holt passed Lisa Foss of Northern Illinois (853 points, 1991) as well as Northwestern's Anucha Brown (1985), St. Joseph's Dale Hodges (1990) and Vanderbilt's Wendy Scholtens (1990), who all scored 855 points. Holt ranks 17th on the national list, only four points behind Penn State's Kelly Mazzante (872 points, 2002) and five behind Delta State's Deborah Temple (873 points, 1984). Holt needs 40 points to reach the Top 10 in the list.

HOLT MOVES UP CAREER SCORING LIST: Holt moved up two spots on the career scoring list with her 33-point effort against Troy in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. Holt passed Heather Prater (1,348 points, 1993-96) and Tia Stovall (1,351 points, 2003-06) to move into 12th place on the all-time list. Holt heads into Wednesday's WNIT contest against Western Carolina with 1,435 points and needs 18 points to surpass Sherry Tucker (1,452 points, 1992-95) for 11th on the career scoring list and 30 points to move past Sharon McClanahan (1,464 points, 1976-79) and Stephanie Capley (1,464 points, 1988-91) for ninth on the all-time list.

HOLT VOTED FIRST TEAM ALL-SBC, DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Holt was voted First Team All-Sun Belt and SBC Defensive Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office on March 4. Holt is the nation's leading scorer for the 10th straight week and ranks nationally in five categories, including rebounding, field goal percentage, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. She scored a then career-high 41 points in Middle Tennessee's upset of eighth-ranked LSU in December and broke a 21-year-old school record in January, netting 44 points at Louisiana-Monroe. The Duluth, Ga., native is the only player in the nation with a pair of 40-point games this season and also the only player in the country to lead her team in points, rebounds, assists and steals in 2007-08. She has 12 games with 30-plus points and eight double-doubles as well as ranking in the Top 5 in the Sun Belt in points, rebounds, steals, offensive rebounds, FG percentage, FT percentage and assist-to-turnover ratio. Eight of her 30-point efforts have come versus SBC competition. Holt has won an unprecedented five Sun Belt Player of the Week awards and is a member of all three National Player of the Year award watch lists - the Wade Trophy, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award. The Meadowcreek High School product was also a First Team All-SBC selection in 2006-07 and is one of five players to garner First Team accolades since the Blue Raiders joined the league eight seasons ago. Middle Tennessee has earned 11 First Team All-SBC selections during the eight seasons. Holt was voted Defensive Player of the Year, as well, the sixth straight season a Blue Raider has won the award. She averages 2.41 steals per game and has also drawn 58 charges in 32 contests this season, almost twice the number the rest of the team has combined.

MORE ON HOLT: Holt's school-record 44 points at Louisiana-Monroe on January 24 ties for the fourth most this season by any player in the country. Tennessee State's Kendra Appling scored 50 points against Jacksonville State on February 23, Traci Edwards of Wisconsin-Milwaukee netted 45 versus Loyola (IL) on Feb. 21 and Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley scored 45 versus Oklahoma on January 12. Lamar's Tamara Abalde netted 44 against Wiley on November 24. Holt is the only player in the nation with more than 40 points in two games in 2007-08. She has netted 30-plus points 12 times this year, passing Tawanya Mucker for the most 30-point games in a single season. She outscored Troy's team, 22-18, in the first half on Jan. 17, tying for the most points scored in a half this season and besting her previous high for points in the first half (19 versus LSU and at Western Kentucky). The senior has made double-figure field goals in a game 15 times this season and hit the double-figure mark for free throws made in seven contests. One other note - the Meadowcreek HS product has also posted 19 contests with eight or more rebounds, has recorded eight double-doubles this season and has 13 games with four or more assists.

HOLT LEADS BLUE RAIDERS ACROSS THE BOARD: Holt leads the Blue Raiders in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals heading into Wednesday's WNIT contest versus Western Carolina, and is the only player in the nation currently leading her team in all four categories. Holt is averaging 27.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.19 assists and 2.41 steals per game for Middle Tennessee. The Duluth, Ga., leads the nation in scoring for the 10th straight week, but she has done much more than score for the Blue Raiders this season, as evidenced by her statistics. She has eight double-doubles in 32 games and 19 contests with at least eight boards despite playing against much-taller opponents in almost every outing. She also has 13 contests with at least four assists, including six at Old Dominion, seven at Maryland and five at Tennessee. Holt has scored at least 27 points in 19 contests this season as well, including 41 against No. 8 LSU on December 28 and a school-record 44 points at Louisiana-Monroe on January 24.

HOLT EARNS RECORD FIFTH POW AWARD: Holt was voted the Sun Belt Player of the Week on February 18 for the fifth time this season after helping the Blue Raiders to victories over South Alabama and Western Kentucky. Holt averaged 27.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game in the two victories. The senior netted 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting versus USA, hitting 7-of-8 free throws as well as posting eight boards, three assists and three steals in the 66-46 victory. Against WKU she collected 28 points and eight rebounds, going 12-of-23 from the field, along with three assists and four steals. She was 3-for-4 at the foul line and hit a 10-footer with 26 seconds remaining to give the Blue Raiders a four-point lead. She then knocked down a 1-and-1 with 14 seconds left to seal the victory. Holt continues to lead the nation in scoring for the seventh straight week, averaging 27.0 points along with 8.3 rebounds per game this season. She has scored 27 or more points and grabbed eight or more rebounds 17 times each in 2007-08. The Duluth, Ga., native was also voted SBC Player of the Week on November 20, December 18, January 7 and January 28.

HOLT GARNERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS: Holt earned four other Player of the Week honors this season, including November 20, December 18, January 7 and January 28.
Holt averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in victories over Tennessee Tech and at Houston to earn POW honors on November 20. She set then career-highs with 30 points and 15 rebounds at Houston, including scoring nine straight points in the second half after the Cougars tied the game. Against Tennessee Tech, Holt scored 19 points with five rebounds.
The Duluth, Ga., native averaged 30.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in contests against top-ranked Tennessee and at Austin Peay, earning POW accolades on December 18. Against UT, Holt netted 28 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the floor and 10-of-11 at the foul line. She scored 20 of her 28 points in the second half. At Austin Peay, the senior scored a then career-high 33 points, making 12-of-16 shots and 8-of-11 free throws. She grabbed 14 rebounds with five assists and three steals.
She averaged 29.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals in six games over the holidays, garnering the honor on January 7. She posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds as well as five assists and five steals versus Florida International and netted 27 points, eight boards and four assists at South Alabama. Holt scored a then career-high 41 points in the 67-56 upset of No. 8 LSU on Dec. 28. She grabbed nine rebounds and made four steals against the Lady Tigers, as well, and followed that with 32 points and nine boards at Louisville. She scored 36 points at Western Kentucky and netted 24 points in just 27 minutes of action versus Denver.
Holt averaged 32.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game to win the award on January 28. She broke a 21-year-old school record Jan. 24 at Louisiana-Monroe, scoring 44 points on 17-of-25 shooting and 10-for-13 at the foul line. Holt scored 22 points in both halves, including the first 11 of the game, the final nine of the first half and 16-of-18 during one stretch of the second half. In a victory over North Texas, Holt scored 20 points with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

HOLT SETS ANOTHER RECORD: Holt set another school-record at Arkansas State on January 14, becoming the fastest player to reach 1,000 points. She reached the feat in just 51 career games, besting the previous mark of 55 games held by Priscilla Robinson (1990-91, 1991-92). Holt became the 20th player in school history to reach the exclusive 1,000-point club and the fifth player in the last five seasons (Patrice Holmes in 2003-04, Tia Stovall in 2004-05, Chrissy Givens and Krystle Horton in 2005-06).

HOLT MORE EXPLOSIVE AFTER HALFTIME: Holt averages 27.1 points per game this season, but the senior has been much more productive after halftime, scoring in double figures in the second half in all but three games and scoring more points in the second half than in the first in 21 of the 32 contests. The Duluth, Ga., native has netted 470 of her 868 points (14.7 per game) this season after intermission. Holt scored 20 of her team-high 28 at No. 1 Tennessee after the break and posted 22 of her career-high 41 after intermission versus No. 8 LSU. She added 18 of her then career-high 33 at Austin Peay in the second half as well. Holt had 19 of her game-high 27 points after intermission at Arizona on November 25, including the first six points of the second half and seven of the team's final 11 points of the contest. She posted 20 of her 31 points at Arkansas State after the break, including 12 of the team's final 14 points in the game.

HOLT'S SCORING TOPS AFTER 15 GAMES: Holt tallied 392 points this season through 15 games, leading the nation in scoring. Her point total is the most ever by a Blue Raider player after 15 contests. She broke the previous record of 360 points through 15 games held by Kim Webb in 1986-87. Holt's 41 points against LSU is also tied for the fifth most this season by any player in the country. At her current pace, Holt would pass the school single-season record for points (758) in the final regular season game of the year. Her current pace would give her 771 points.

HOLT HAS STRONG DECEMBER: Holt was on quite a roll during the month of December, posting three double-doubles in eight games after recording 18 points and 11 rebounds against Florida International on Dec. 19., the seventh double-double of her career and fourth in 2007-08. She also had a double-double at Austin Peay on December 15, registering a then career-high 33 points along with 14 rebounds. Holt had one of her best all-around games of her career at Maryland on December 5, scoring 16 points with 10 rebounds and a career-high seven assists in 39 minutes of action. The Meadowcreek HS product posted a double-double November 19 at Houston when she had then career-highs of 30 points and 15 rebounds. Holt has just missed a double-double on three other occasions in 2007-08, grabbing nine rebounds at Arizona, versus No. 8/8 LSU and at Louisville.

HOLT NETS 41 IN UPSET OF LSU: Holt's senior season has been spectacular to say the least, but she really put on a show in the 67-56 victory over eighth-ranked LSU on December 28, scoring a then career-high 41 points, just one shy of the school record held by Kim Webb. She hit 15-of-26 shots from the floor and 11-for-12 at the foul line, scoring 19 in the first half and 22 after the break. The 41 points tied Tawanya Mucker for the second most in school history. The 15 field goals tied for seventh most in a single game in school history. Holt became the first player to score 40 for Middle Tennessee since Mucker's 41 against Mississippi College on December 2, 1988.
